Dear Colleagues and Friends:
Who have you developed a relationship with in your respective field? Who have you reached? Relationships come from many sources. Join us as we help you build relationships with your friends, colleagues and students, during the 54th annual PACEC Convention. This year we will be again providing a 1-day conference with many different and inspiring sessions to reinvigorate and reinvent your current practice.
Please mark your calendars for November 15, 2013, to attend the PACEC convention. This year’s convention and events will be premiering for the first time at the Premier Best Western Hotel and Convention Center (Airport Area), in Harrisburg PA. We have negotiated a special rate for the hotel which includes Wednesday through Friday nights for those who are interested in making a weekend of it to explore Harrisburg and the surrounding areas. Reserve your room soon to make sure you can take advantage of this special rate. The rate will be available until October 25, 2013.
The Pennsylvania Council for Exceptional Children (PACEC) is dedicated to supporting exceptional students, families and professionals within special education and associated fields. In this time of ongoing economic instability, budget cuts, unemployment and ever changing laws, regulations, and policies isn’t it nice to know there is an organization that is on your side focused on helping you and your students? PACEC is dedicated to advocating on behalf of our members to educate and influence elected and appointed officials on issues impacting our field.
The 2013 PACEC Convention is dedicated to help you become inspired to reinvigorate and reinvent your current practice so that you can inspire others. Our goal is to present best practices within the field that are both research-based and innovative so that all stakeholders will gain valuable knowledge and develop the skills necessary to make a positive impact on the learning environments of all children, youth and young adults with exceptional needs. Register soon to be part of the action! This year we are pleased to offer a new, user-friendly on-line registration system available for your convenience. Online registrations is the preferred method as part of an effort to “Go Green” and reduce the organization’s carbon footprint and costs.
Our Keynote Speaker is Ms. Christy Chambers (National CEC President). As part of Friday’s opening Keynote session, we will also have our annual PACEC General Membership meeting where you will find out what is going on in CEC at the state and national level and will have an opportunity to hear the proposed 2013 resolutions.
Although we are not offering workshop “strands” as we have in previous years, this year’s convention will include sessions in technology, special education law, grant-writing, positive behavioral supports/ interventions, developmental disabilities and autism spectrum disorders, culturally responsive instructional strategies, inclusive practices, and secondary transition. Our PASCEC student board will host their annual general meeting and a session to address the needs of pre-service and early career teachers who are attending the convention. As in previous conventions, we are pleased to provide BCBA credit hours for qualifying sessions for Board Certified Behavior Analysts.
All PACEC sub-divisions will host meetings on Friday during the scheduled lunch time. Please attend a meeting of interest and become more involved in sub-division organizations. All are welcome to attend these meetings. We need your involvement in order to move into the future!
Finally, we will once again be hosting the annual PACEC Awards Ceremony in conjunction with the Past President’s Reception. All registered conference attendees are welcome to join us for a fun and exciting time to celebrate the accomplishments within our field, enjoy hors d’oeuvres, live entertainment, and an opportunity to network with colleagues. A cash bar will be available for those who are 21 and over, so please bring your ID. Dinner will be on your own following the reception so you can explore the various dining options available in the area. Check the program for additional details!
So make plans now to join us and build more relationships at the 2013 PACEC Convention!
