Sunday Special Sessions:
New Teacher Institute. This is our 3rd year offering the New Teacher Institute! First and Second year teachers must pre-register to attend this 6-hour institute on Sunday, packed with everything a new special education teacher needs to know! Six hours of PD credit OR Emergency/Probationary credit is given to these participants.
The Virginia Student Threat Assessment Guidelines is a 6-hour training that teaches school-based teams to evaluate student threats of violence, quickly resolve less serious transient threats and take appropriate action in response to more serious, substantive threats. School teams ordinarily consist of school administrators, mental health professionals (counselors, psychologists, social workers), and law enforcement officers. Pre-registration required.
High Leverage Practices: What Every Special Educator Should Know. Dr. Larry Maheady, one of the authors of High Leverage Practices, will provide a session on this important topic Sunday from 4:15 – 6:00 pm. The session will be repeated Monday from 8:00-9:30 am.

Monday Special Sessions:
High Leverage Practices: What Every Special Educator Should Know. Dr. Larry Maheady, one of the authors of High Leverage Practices, will provide a session on this important topic Monday from 8:00-9:30 am.
• Celebrate the accomplishments of your colleagues during the General Session, Monday at 10:00 am. We will meet the award winners, including the Teacher of the Year nominees and winner!
• Dr. Marcia Tate will provide her session “Worksheets Don’t Grow Dendrites: 20 Instructional Strategies that Engage the Brain” during the General Session at 10:00 am.
• Pick up your lunch and join us from noon- 1:00 pm to celebrate our Yes I Can Award Winners! You will be inspired as we celebrate these young people!
• Dr. Marcia Tate will provide a follow-up session at 1:15 entitled, “Characteristics of a Brain-Compatible Classroom Environment”

Tuesday Sessions: Pre-Registration is Required!
We are offering 3-hour workshops that provide in-depth study. Choose from:
• Make & Take workshops for language arts, math and behavior
• In-depth workshops on autism, low incidence, and progress monitoring
• Team-based workshops on leadership, co-teaching, and utilizing paraprofessionals

Professional Development Credits:
• Teachers can receive up to 6 hours of Professional Development credit for attending all the sessions on Sunday. The forms are provided at the Registration Desk.
• Emergency/Probationary Teachers can receive up to 6 hours of PD credit when they attend all the sessions on Sunday. The forms are provided at the Registration Desk.
• Administrators receive EILA credit for the sessions they attend throughout the conference. Administrators may download a copy of the EILA form to have speakers sign.
