TN CEC Awards Information

TN-Council for Exceptional Children

AWARDS

Each year of the TN CEC State Conference we will present awards to individuals from each of the following areas: 

TN CEC YES, I CAN! Award

The TN CEC “Yes, I Can!” Award recognizes the accomplishments of children and youth with exceptionalities (ages 2-21). CEC selects winners for their outstanding achievements in one of six categories:

  1. Academics
  2. Arts
  3. School and Community Activities
  4. Self-Advocacy
  5. Technology
  6. Transition

If you know of an outstanding individual with exceptionalities, we want you to nominate them for this award! 

TN-CEC TEACHER OF THE YEAR

This award is presented annually at the TN-CEC conference to a teacher who currently provides direct services to students with exceptionalities and who exemplifies outstanding teaching in special education. If you know of an outstanding special education teacher, we want you to nominate them for this award! 

TN-CEC PRE-SERVICE TEACHER OF THE YEAR

This award is presented annually at the TN-CEC conference to a pre-service teacher who exemplify outstanding practices throughout the field-based experiences (practicum or student teaching) as well as, has demonstrated their commitment to the CEC professional ethical principles. If you know of an outstanding special education pre-service teacher candidate, we want you to nominate them for this award! 

TN-CEC FACULTY OF THE YEAR

This award is presented annually at the TN-CEC conference to a university faculty member who has demonstrated their commitment in preparing future special education teachers to provide outstanding support to students with exceptionalities and their commitment to the CEC professional ethical principles. If you know of an outstanding special education faculty member, we want you to nominate them for this award! 

 

RECENT TENNESSEE AWARD RECIPIENTS:

This award is presented annually at the TN-CEC conference to an individual with an exceptionality (ages 2-21) who has exemplified outstanding accomplishments during his or her life.

     2014 Yes! I Can Award Winner - Garrett Helms, Collierville Elementary School, Collierville TN

     

     2015 Yes! I Can Award Winner - no nominations

 

 TN-CEC TEACHER OF THE YEAR

This award is presented annually at the TN-CEC conference to a teacher who currently provides direct services to students with exceptionalities and who exemplifies outstanding teaching in special education.

     2015 Teacher of the Year:  Leya White, Transition II Teacher, Franklin High School, Franklin, TN

 

  

TN-CEC PRE-SERVICE TEACHER OF THE YEAR

This award is presented annually at the TN-CEC conference to a pre-service teacher who exemplify outstanding practices throughout the field-based experiences (practicum or student teaching) as well as, has demonstrated their commitment to the CEC professional ethical principles.

     2015 Pre-Service Teacher of the Year: Megan Vranicar, Special Education Major, Vanderbilt University

This award is presented annually at the TN-CEC conference to a university faculty member who has demonstrated their commitment in preparing future special education teachers to provide outstanding support to students with exceptionalities and their commitment to the CEC professional ethical principles.

     2015 Faculty of the Year:  Alexandra DaFonte, Assistant Professor of the Practice, Vanderbilt University
